Picture this: four teams of amateur filmmakers competing to make the best short film they can in 48 hours. They arrive empty-handed on Thursday, August 22, without a single piece of equipment or page of script. We provide them with a small budget, the theme for their movie, and the most gorgeous location any director could ask for: the amazing JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort and its pristine white sand beaches.
Once the short films are completed, three industry judges will evaluate the films and choose an overall winner, to be announced at an awards ceremony immediately following the 48 Hour Film Challenge on Sunday, August 25th.
In addition to managing their small budget to rent equipment and hire actors, each five-person team must designate a specific role for each member. Each role comes with responsibilities that only that member is allowed to perform:
Director: Casting, directing, maintaining a shot list
Director of Photography: Renting gear, setting up shots and lighting, running the crew, maintaining a shot list
Producer: Budgeting, casting, communicating with the Executive Producer
Writer: Writing the dialogue
Editor: Managing and editing the footage
